Pench National Park
21.7630° N to 79.3391°
Pench National Park is a teak forest situated in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. It is named after the river Pench which divides the park into two parts.
This park gained popularity due to a rise in wildlife tourism in 2002. However, it had been discovered by Rudyard Kipling before tourism began. Kipling wrote about the park in his famous “Jungle Book”, immortalizing it in literature. Even today, Pench is home to both the fierce Sher Khan and the lovable Baloo, reminding us of our favorite bedtime story.
This park consists mainly of teak forest and is made up of four distinct hill ranges. Pench National Park serves as a vital corridor between Kanha National Park and has seen Tigers travel from Kanha to Pench, which is roughly 200kms away. The park is also home to the elusive Leopard as well as Sloth Bears, Indian Gaur, Wild Dogs, Sambars, Langurs, and over 300 species of birds.

In Central India, you’ll discover a magnificent tropical forest spanning 758 square kilometers. This forest is unique because it blends the lushness of moist deciduous trees with the rugged beauty of teak from the dry deciduous region. The landscape is crisscrossed by numerous streams and seasonal ‘nallahs.’ Although the Pench River typically dries up by the end of April, you can still find natural water pools known as ‘dohs’ that serve as vital watering holes for the wildlife.
At the heart of the forest lies the Pench Reservoir, the primary water source during the dry season. This area is a hotspot for wildlife, particularly tigers, which are drawn to the high concentration of prey along the Pench River. While leopards usually roam the forest’s periphery, they occasionally venture into its deeper parts.
